Caring. Individual. Effective.

More than twenty years of experience as a Physical Therapist have made me an expert at providing individualized, compassionate care.
I have treated each stage of orthopedic injury for patients from acute care in hospital, through discharge from outpatient care and homecare when needed. I have practiced in New York, Florida, and Maine, helping patients reach their pain-free potential and well-being again.
After an injury or with chronic pain, one might not take the time in daily life to search for the appropriate relief. We often freeze, hoping for a problem to just heal itself, instead of actively taking care of ourselves.

Your Midtown PT Jason W. Matthews
“It is my purpose to support you to heal, to improve your well-being and to enable you to effectively pursue your activities again.”
I have spent months in physical therapy treatment myself and saw the positive effect guided active and passive movement can create. This inspired me to find my purpose: helping people avoid or recover from surgery and supporting them to heal.
My parents remember, from my early childhood, my interest in helping others recover from being hurt. Later, through high school and college, I participated in competitive athletics - until my participation was ended by traumatic and overuse injuries.
During my subsequent rehabilitation, I learned how important it is to find a caring and present physical therapist. I also learned to be patient with myself, and to listen to my body. Through my own experiences and those of my patients, I have come to understand the transformative effect that recovering body functions can have on an individual's psychological and emotional health. Beyond manual therapy, this is the part of my work that fulfills me most.
Often my clients come to see me when they have tried other treatments and failed to recover. Complicated or multiple injuries and pain often take time to evaluate and to treat. One-to-One, individualized treatment can be especially effective in these circumstances.
In January 2015, I opened my own Physical Therapy Clinic in Midtown Manhattan.
Since 2019, I have been an adjunct professor with Long Island University’s Physical Therapy department, teaching effective evidence-based exercise and manual therapy with a focus on anatomy.
I find a deep satisfaction working with students to help them develop the practical skills that create a healing environment.
